wow the power of expectation. when i first downloaded adhitia sofyan's 2nd album, I have
- very high expectations that it will be as good as the 1st one
- very high expectations that it will sound like the first album (the feel etc)
apart from the 2 songs which I love n were already published earlier as singles (after the rain and carnival), i haven't listened to the new songs.
i started skim listening each of the songs, and well i was kinda disappointed, they didnt sound familiar to my ears. i had been expecting for it to sound like the first album. i didn't bother listening to the rest of them. to me they suck. my hopes for adhitia sofyan music didnt go on. to me then he was just a one album wonder. not a musician whose music i'll be looking up to anytime soon.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1-2 months later and today i found myself bored with my current songs. i thought of that 2nd album which i barely listened to cos of my initial disappointment. clicked on a few folders and found it. untouched. i dragged the album to my media player, half expecting nothing, half fearing tht i'll be turned off (again) by the music.
my initial expectation was starting to be washed over as the music played. lumayan..
1st song played, Secret. hmmhmmm..didnt sound as if i had listened to it before. starting to be interested..by the middle of the song i conclude tht it should grace my playlist. song ended, on to the next one,
2nd song, Bandaged. not loving this song. it sounds folky2 gtu. kinda makes me feel gloomy for some reason. (i hate songs tht bring me down!) note, its not melancholic ya, gloomy. this song isn't gonna be on my playlist.
3rd song, Dark Side, playlist worthy.
UPDATE: enak abis. smakin didenger smakin demen gw
4th song, Gaze, starting to love. yes LOVE. the intro reminds me of the background music of my favorite PS game, harvest moon. so calm and reminds me of walking around the countryside on a spring. lol. come the chorus, its pure beauty
5th song, the stalker. a lil creepy, but gonna include it.
6th song, midnight, i like the chorus. yes it's in
7th song, forget jakarta, a moderately good song, shall include it in
8th song, don't look back- good good good
9th song, immortal mellow: goooooodsss
overall, the album definitely doesn't have the same feel as the 1st. for starters, Adhit included more instruments in his songs. the previous was mostly him and his guitar. this one includes drums, sax and some fancy instruments like the tinkly thing, dunno where its from.
i love this album. the key to love it is to not compare it to the 1st album. it's like apple n orange, no comparison. each is mighty in its own way. i'm serious. comparing it to quiet down will just cloud your judgement and screw ur perspective (like mine was at first)
after listening to forget your plans for the 2nd time, i conclude tht i love it! except for bandaged. that song doesn't make me feel good. kinda dark.
the chorus of in to the light reminds me of the middle eastern, folky, dongeng 1001 malem kind of music. which I never liked. it sorta brings my mood down.
Nevertheless, Adhit's songs have always been easy to like. they definitely have a special spot in my playlist. except for the 2 which I disliked. good job again Adhitia Sofyan! definitely one of the best our country (heck, even the world) can have.
