this is a rough recollection as I, being shook up, dont remember the exact situation.
i went to the casino with erica as she wanted to say hi to her friend. at the entrance I just realised Id forgotten my ID, which meant i wouldnt be able to get in. erica had 2 IDs with her n gave me her passport. i actually doubted it at first, but went anyway, no harm in trying I thought. it was a success. the guy barely glanced at the passport and let me in. later on we came out, and tried to get back in.
i gave the bouncer (this time a different guy) her passport. he looked at it and looked at me. he said "is this really you?"
i said "yes"
he looked at the passport again and said,
"this doesn't look like you." i said yes it's me (at that time i was pretty confident that he would let me in, as the first guy did)
the situation worsened when he said "when's your birth date." i didn't know and knew that if i appeared to be guessing, he would know, so i pretended for 3 seconds not to hear him, then innocently asked "sorry?" he repeated the question and I slurred "september........seventh"
at this time, even the stupidest person would know i was lying. my fear was building, as he calmly looked at the passport and said "september 7th?"
he then asked how old are you? I said "twenty..."
and then he looked at me and said something like
"you can keep on doing this, or you can admit"
finally i said OK that wasnt me. I dont have my ID. he said how old are you really? I said Im 21, and i said I've got a university card, which doesnt have my d.o.b but might help show that I'm over 18 (cos most uni students are definitely over 18) he looked at it and smiled and said see, I knew that wasnt you. i said "wow you're good"
he said,"OK I would have to talk to someone about it"
he then talked on his speaker. when he finished I asked him, "will i be in trouble?"
he said "no", but "you wouldnt be able to get in here today. and you friend shouldnt have given you her passport. it's ok, its just that there are government rules regarding stuff like this and she may be banned from the casino." he took down my name and dob and said "your friend can pick up her passport now, or at the lost and found tomorrow from 9-5."
i called erica and she came over. she tried to lie saying her passport happened to be with me. and the bouncer guy basically said it's ok, the government people are too lazy to come here, but "if they want to, you could actually be fined up to $550"
and he said you were honest, so no big deal will be made out of it. but some people who keep insisting to be another person, would be in trouble.
i said sorry and thanked him for being cool about it.
but yea, we were basically banned for the night.
after walking around, I persuaded erica to go back there as she needed to resolve her unfinished business. we went to a different entrance and I planned to show my student ID to persuade the bouncer to let me in. he let erica in, and i told him I dont have my ID with me, but ive got a uni card...
he promptly said "no"
we then stood around feeling kinda dejected, till we saw a couple of young asians walk in without being checked. then erica told him why didnt you do anything about them? he then appeared to talk into his speaker and said "you both are banned for the night" lol, busted.
erica tried to say we were banned before 12 and now it's after 12, which meant it was the next day. he said its for 24 hours. ok.
well at least the effort should be applauded.
we then walked towards the bus stop which was pretty far away. erica's feet were hurting from her shoes so she took a rest at a nearby bus stop. i stood near the edge as the seats were not clean. this was around 1 am.
minutes later 3 teenage girls came to the bus stop. i quickly glanced at them to see if they might be trouble. i saw an indian girl, which made me think they were harmless. i heard a sound and erica said "what the hell?" she got up and stood next to me. i saw a pebble near her. i thought it must have been thrown accidentally from somewhere. I didnt suspect a thing and didnt ask anything (which was really dumb of me). a while later erica again said "what the hell?" and I knew those girls have been throwing pebbles at her.
at that point my inner sos alarm began ringing and i quickly said erica let's go. I knew from my friend that some teenage girls are in a gang and they often like harassing people.
as we walked away they shouted some shit and then *i think* erica said stg back at them. BAD. this made them come after us
i tried to walk quickly without running, as it was a quiet street with no one and hardly any car in sight. i was putting the dog theory into use, if you run away from them, they will run after you.
it all happened so fast, erica was the one they were after and they got to her. i kept walking trying to get to the big street for a cab. i was super scared. part of me said i was a lousy friend leaving her behind like that but another part said its just good sense. i mean if i stayed there i wouldnt have been able to help her, if anything they might harass me too. the logical thing will be to get a cab so we can get away asap.
as i was walking one of the girls (the indian) started following me in a sorta confrontational way. i was super super scared. i kept walking and i heard her say she just wanna talk. finally i felt i had no choice so i stopped and she asked me something like "what's your friend's problem?"
the obvious answer was "well what do you think? YOUR psycho friend threw pebbles at her." but saying that was just asking for trouble, so i quickly worked something out and came up with "please excuse her, she's really drunk. could you please tell your friend to stop going after her?"
the indian girl asked again,"why is she drunk?" i then said (and this was quite true) "she just got her heart broken by a guy, please tell your friend to stop" then she really went to the psycho and told her,"hey enough she just got heartbroken." the psycho girl said stg like "why do you give a fuck about guys"
then i quickly walked away with erica. i wanted to get away from that place as quickly as possible. but crap oh crap, a while later they started coming after us again. the psycho went straight to erica and said stg like "you told me you'll give me money if i stop coming after you" i went to the indian and said "why is she doing this again?!"
the indian said "she's got schyzopernia" i didnt understand at first and went "what?!" i thought she'd meant shes got her gangster friends behind. she repeated and said "she's got 2 personalities. when this happens there's nothing i can do"
i was like "crap". i looked at erica and saw her phone being thrown to the road and they continued confronting her. she was replying to them. i knew she was scared but she held up pretty well. i started walking towards the big road. no cab. when i turned around, i saw erica stopping a car and telling the driver abt those girls. the driver, a youngish caucasian (looked kinda raggedy) said it would be hard to find a cab there, and that he lived just around the area and offered to take us to george street as there were more cabs there.
erica looked like she was getting in the car. hitchhiker horror stories started popping in my head and i thought it would much worse if we got in the car and he turned out to be a bad person. i said to erica "No."
thankfully the guy was so nice and cool abt it (heck i would have been pissed if i was simply a good samaritan but the people i helped suspected i was a psycho) and he actually waited there while i went up to wait for cabs. i said thanks a lot n sorry. at this point the psycho and her friends were sitting on the other side of the road, sorta looking like birds waiting on their preys. they didnt dare come to us cos the guy was there. i couldnt describe how thankful i was for the guy, who in my mind was no less than our knight in shining armour.
psycho and co found other preys and this time it was an asian guy and a couple of asian girls. well with a guy around that would have been no problem for them (the asians). they started getting into an argument and the guy was actually snapping back. good on him.
finally a cab came and erica stopped it. another caucasian guy looked like he was after the same cab (the cab was on the opposite side of the road, where the psycho is) but erica told him stg and we quickly got in the cab, but not before i shouted a huge thank you to the car guy. oh how grateful i was for thee. he replied with a wave.
erica told the cab driver to wait, opened the window and shouted to the girls "FUCK YOU OFF!!!" which although grammatically incorrect was pretty much the gist of what she had on her mind. the girls shouted stg back as the cab driver drove away.
erica started emotionally telling the cab driver abt the psycho. she said they were scared when they saw her took out her phone, thinking she might call the police on them, hence they threw her phone away. she wasn't physically harassed and none of her belongings were taken, which was good as she has lots of cash stashed in her bag. the cab driver said those girls are bored and they seeked stg to do. he said they were lying if they said she was crazy cos a crazy person would not be asking for money that way. they simply wanted money.
one way or another, i was so relieved i was safe in the cab. this was definitely a very traumatising experience. of course i might look back on this and say it was hardly a big deal. lesson learnt: just run away whenever you see a group of teenage girls in a quiet street in the middle of the night, and never, ever talk back.
this took me hours to write as i had to take my mind off it and look at other things. it was really hard to write.
